Born as John Winston Lennon on 9 October 1940, John Lennon is one of the few celebrity artist that has managed to capture the imagination of a whole generation. Co-founder and member of the hugely successful band “The Beatles”, John Lennon also partnered with another well known member of the band, Paul McCartney to become established song writers.
Spent his teenage years in Liverpool, his first band was the Quarrymen, which later became the Beatles. The band enjoyed spectacular success which they enjoyed for 10 years before disbanding in 1970.
After going separate ways, John Lennon started his solo career where he also released some well received albums like “Imagine”.
A year before The Beatles separated, John Lennon married Yoko Ono who bore him a son, Sean in 1975. John Lennon too a 5 years hiatus from the music scene to care for his newborn son. Made a comeback in 1980 with a new album Double Fantasy.
Unfortunately, John Lennon was murdered 3 weeks after the album was released.
As of 2012, Lennon’s solo album sales in the United States exceeded 14 million and, as writer, co-writer, or performer, he is responsible for 25 number-one singles on the US Hot 100 chart. In 2002, a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons voted him eighth and, in 2008, Rolling Stone ranked him the fifth-greatest singer of all time. He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice; as a member of the Beatles in 1988 and as a solo artist in 1994.
